Article: PHP Statistics for March 2007

 

 

Damien Seguy over at nexen.net has posted the PHP statistics for March 2007. He says that 10.1 millions servers were hosted on 2.3 millions. IP were surveyed during December, and 22.8 were used for statistics. Domains without web sites, those unreachable, ISP, shared hosters or domain parkings were not considered. he added.

Graphs and pie charts are provided under the following categories to show the results:

  • PHP on Internet: this graph shows PHP market share, on worldwide Internet web sites. PHP is found on 33,93 % of web sites, stable from last month. PHP market share is stable.
  • PHP version distribution: this graphic displays the market share of each PHP version. The blue graph represents the sum of all preceding versions. PHP 4.4 and beyond represent now 60% of all PHP installations. When a PHP application supports PHP 4.3.10 and better, they are functional on more than 60% of all PHP installations.
  • PHP major version distribution: this graphic represents the PHP major version distributions: 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. PHP 5 takes another percent to 15,87 % barrier and PHP 4 keeps on declining. Besides PHP 4, all other major version are negligible.
  • Retreating versions: this graph present PHP version who lost web sites during March. He points out for each version, it counted the number of web sites adopting a version, and abandoning it. Finally, the difference between the figures was made. The graph presents only versions who lost ground during the month. Figures are displayed as percentage of migration.
  • PHP 4/5 middle version distribution: this graphic represents PHP middle version distribution for PHP 4 and 5. PHP 4.4 seems to speed up a bit, drawing from PHP 4.3. PHP 5.2 is also strongly going up, and April will be most interesting for this version.
  • Increasing versions: this graph present PHP version who gained web sites during December.
  • PHP 4.3/4 minor version distribution: this graphic represents the PHP 4.3 and 4.4 minor version distribution PHP 4.4.4 consolidates its rank. PHP 4.4.5 is half the market size of PHP 4.4.6.
  • PHP 5 minor distribution: this graphic represents the PHP 5.x minor version distribution. PHP 5.2.0 lost its dominating status, transferring massively its users to PHP 5.2.1: the latter just 10 points, from the bottom of the ranking to 3rd position. PHP 5.1.6 gets back its dominating position.
  • PHP adoption by country: this map represents PHP market share for each country. Green countries are the one using most PHP, red countries the least and yellow countries are in the world average (33,93 %).
  • PHP 5 adoption by country: this map represents PHP 5 market share for each country. Green countries are the one using most PHP5, red countries the least and yellow countries are in the world average (15,87 %).
  • PHP Market size by country: this map show the number of PHP servers in each country. It allows the evaluation of each country's market size, and must be use jointly with the above map, showing PHP adoption in percentage.
  • Web servers distribution: this graphic represents the web servers market share.
  • PHP adoption in Canada: this map shows PHP market share in each Canada's province.
  • PHP adoption on large domains: this graphic represent PHP market share for large domains, with 2 to 100 distinct IP. PHP market share is even larger than on the overall market (33,93 % compared to 34,36%).
  • PHP adoption by IP: this graph presents the adoption of PHP on Internet, distributed by IP.
  • PHP version by IP: this graph presents PHP versions on Internet, distributed by IP.
