Eclipse Callisto and Europa

Eclipse has grown from a few projects in 2001 to more than 60 projects in 2006, and the number of projects is still growing. Many consumers of the Eclipse technology typically rely on a stack of different components that they extend with their own components. Until the Callisto simultaneous release in June 2006, feature and release panning was not synchronised between projects - integration and testing was time consuming and costly.

At JAX India 2007, Ralph Mueller will discuss the benefits of Callisto for the Eclipse Eco System as well as the lessons learned from the year that lead to Callisto. We will also look into the future and discuss what the Europa release in 2007 will hold for the Eclipse community.

Ralph Mueller is a Eclipse Ecosystem Builder

Mueller started working for the Eclipse Foundation in September 2005. A computer scientist by trade, he sees the main focus of his work in the exploration and building of the European Eclipse Eco System. In addition to this, he is one of the main contact points in Central Europe for companies and individuals that want to use Eclipse provide services around Eclipse or contribute to Eclipse. Based on his past experience, he is also exploring collaboration with industries such as Automotive or Aerospace with the goal to promote the Eclipse idea into these areas. Having been a software developer and a manager of software development teams in various companies, Ralph joined Object Technology International (OTI) in 1994, where he helped to found the European OTI organisation with its most prominent member, the OTI lab in Zurich - one of the cradles of Eclipse technology. Ralph then joined IBM, where he served as a lead architect for one of IBM's strategic initiatives for the automotive industries.
