Palm Unveils USD 599 Portable Computer

Palm has rolled out a portable computer to accompany its Treo smartphone. This move is to maintain its position in the handheld device market. The new portable computer is called 'Foleo' and weighs 2.5 pounds.

"This is a category that has failed to establish itself over the past five or six years," said M:Metrics analyst John Jackson. "I don't think it's going to go down in history as a remarkable device."

"Ultimately, it will make smartphones more successful," he said. "The volume we anticipate selling of Foleo initially will be small compared to the volume of Treos. It's not going to be a driver in the short term. But it allows us to rethink how you design smartphones."
