Apple Launches New iMacs

Apple Inc. has introduced three new thinner versions of its populat iMac desktop computers.

“The iMac has been really successful for us. We’d like to make it even better,” Apple Inc., CEO Steve Jobs said at an event at Apple’s headquarters in California. He said the two 20-inch models and the 24-inch version are made of aluminum and glass, which are easier to recycle.

The 24-inch version costs USD 1,799, USD 200 less than its predecessor. At about 1 inch thick, the 20-inch and 24-inch iMacs are about a half-inch thinner than prior models, Apple said.

After this launch, Apple has discontinued the 17-inch version of the iMac and introduced a faster version of the Mac Mini, its least expensive Mac at USD 599. The company also said the new Mini, a system that is sold without a monitor, a keyboard or a mouse, is 39 per cent faster than the prior model.
